Avenues 03:47
The screen's wide open on this cloudy day an avenue of breaking news lately been whistling down an empty street I can't find anything to lose Somebody's yelling on the second floor someone is whispering her name and she is standing there behind the door I can't find anyone to blame breaking glass bursting through broken ice a broken wing, a broken door a broken star fell through the broken skies a broken bell will ring no more Breaking glass is not like melting ice you can't always pick or choose but there is always more than meets the eye I can't find anything to lose Yes there is always more than meets the eye I can't find anything to lose Yes there is alway more than meets my eyes I can't find anything to lose

about

The words were written down quickly. Inspired by a new used guitar I started playing in a tuning I never had tried before - years ago Werner Lämmerhirt had told me to try the deep C on a guitar to find out if I could fall in love with the instrument. I found out and played the song since then maybe a thousand times. For quite a long time I thought this could have been the last song that I had written.
Still thinking about what brought these words to me. I seem to be clearer about that today but still there are some mysteries in the song that I'm wondering about. Espacially about the girl. Still don't know who she is or was. But I was close to her, that's for sure.
"13. April" is related to "Avenues". There are two persons in the song but only one of them is talking. And maybe the other one doesn't listen anymore. My mother was born on the 13th of April. I had her on my mind when I wrote the german lyrics. And it was me talking to her and to myself.
After all I think I wrote both songs about my mother who passed in 1997 just two weeks before my son was born. So the girl behind the door was her. But you never know.

There's a video on my youTube channel as well. I had the idea of letting my sister make the video about my mothers diaries. Neither my sister nor I could ever read the whole diaries. The pretty young woman you see on the photo at the end of the video - that's my mother.
